Two international academic journals hosted by Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) have recently been indexed in Clarivate's Science Citation Index Expanded, marking a new milestone in the university's efforts to build a globally influential academic portfolio.

The two journals — Space: Science & Technology and Green Energy and Intelligent Transportation — will have all their articles included in the SCI database.

With this development, BIT now hosts three English-language international journals indexed by the SCI, underscoring its presence in global scholarly communication.

The simultaneous inclusion of both journals reflects international recognition of their academic standards and research.

It also highlights BIT's steady progress in advancing interdisciplinary research, promoting academic innovation and strengthening its international academic influence.

Observers note that the achievement demonstrates the comprehensive strength of BIT's journal cluster in editorial quality, operational standards and international development.

Since November 2020, BIT has launched five English-language academic journals, all of which have been selected for the High-Starting Point New Journal Project under Phase I of China's Science and Technology Journal Excellence Action Plan.

Each has been indexed in major international databases such as EI and Scopus. Three of the journals are ranked in the Chinese Academy of Sciences Q1, and all are included in the Core Journals of China Science and Technology.

Launched in January 2021, Space: Science & Technology focuses on cutting-edge research in aerospace engineering, space science and related fields.

The journal is led by Dr. Ye Peijian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and researcher at the China Academy of Space Technology, as editor-in-chief, with BIT professor Deng Yulin serving as executive editor-in-chief.

Prior to its inclusion in the SCIE, it had already been indexed in Ei Compendex and Scopus, and was selected for several national and municipal support programs for high-quality English-language journals.

According to the 2024 Journal Citation Reports released by Clarivate in June 2025, Space: Science & Technology had an impact factor of 6.8, ranking third among 55 journals in the Engineering, Aerospace category.

The CAS has classified it as a Q1 Top journal in Physics and Astrophysics, as well as in Astronomy & Astrophysics and Engineering: Aerospace.

Green Energy and Intelligent Transportation, launched in June 2022, addresses emerging research in green energy systems, intelligent transportation and electric vehicle technologies.

The journal is led by BIT professor Sun Fengchun, also an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as editor-in-chief, with BIT professor Xiong Rui, who is also director of the university's National Engineering Research Center of Electric Vehicles, serving as executive editor-in-chief.

In addition to the SCIE, Green Energy and Intelligent Transportation has also been indexed in Ei and Scopus, and selected for key national and Beijing-level journal development initiatives.

In the 2024 Journal Citation Reports, Green Energy and Intelligent Transportation recorded an impact factor of 16.4, ranking second among 77 journals in the Engineering, Transportation Science & Technology category, highlighting its international influence in a rapidly evolving field.

The rapid development of international journal cluster is an indicator of the university's disciplinary strength and research innovation capacity.

Looking ahead, BIT plans to continue expanding and enhancing its international journal portfolio, supporting key disciplines, fostering top-tier innovative talent, advancing the "Double First-Class" initiative, and building a globally influential academic publishing presence.
