Xinhua | Updated: 2013-02-04 17:29

TOKYO - Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Monday that Takeshi Tokuda, parliament secretary for land, infrastructure, transport and tourism, has quitted from the post over a scandal, local media reported.

Tokuda, a lower house member of Liberal Democratic Party, becomes the first resigned parliament secretary in the cabinet formed last December by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Suga said that the resignation letter of 41-year-old Tokuda was accepted by Abe and his successor will be selected in a week, Kyodo News Agency reported.

Tokuda, who also served as parliament secretary for reconstruction from 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster, quitted as he was involved in a sex scandal, said the report.
