Built in April, steel framed and covered by transparent glass, the crystal-shaped Universiade Center in Longgang district of Shenzhen features modern insulation technologies, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Monday.

The venue has two layers of glass walls that help keep out the summer heat. The outer layer is made of laminated glass and polycarbonate sheets that can block more than 99 percent of ultra red and ultra violet rays, while the inner one is made of insulated fiberglass.

The opened skylight on the top of the outer layer also helps release heat. As a result, audience and players are able to enjoy games in this "glass" venue even in summer time.

About Shenzhen

Shenzhen is located at the southern tip of the Chinese mainland on the eastern bank of the mouth of the Pearl River and neighbors Hong Kong.

The brainchild of Deng Xiaoping, the country's first special economic zone was established here by the Chinese Government in 1980. It has been a touchstone for China's reform and opening-up policy since then.
