Guoyuan port in Liangjiang New Area -- in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality -- is the largest inland river logistic port in China and a landmark project for Chongqing's development as a Yangtze River upstream shipping center.

It was put into operation in 2013 with an investment of over 10 billion yuan ($1.41 billion). As the development of the Chongqing Pilot Free Trade Zone and the Belt and Road Initiative continues, Guoyuan port is going to occupy an important strategic position in international logistics.

Guoyuan port has sixteen 5,000 ton berths and an annual design capacity to handle 30 million metric tons. Its superior geographical location allows it to connect with Northwest China, middle Asia and Europe through the Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe International Railway to the west.

It can also facilitate river-sea transportation through the Yangtze River to the east, or transport inland goods through expressways and railways to the south and north.
