Shanghai Fortune Global Forum was held in Pudong Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone from Sep 27 to 29, 1999.

Under this forum's subject -- "China, the development of the next fifty years", the representatives discussed about the opportunities and the challenges confronted by the Chinese market, the coming economic problems that would influence China, and the business operations in today's China.

Kang Huijun, general manager of the Shanghai Lujiazui (Group) Co Ltd attended the conference. Through nine years' development before 1999, great changes had taken place in Lujiazui.

The old factories, houses, farm fields and villages had turned into skyscrapers. More than 180 distinctive buildings for finance, trade and residence symbolized the opening-up and development of Pudong.

A group of supporting facilities such as roads, bridges, communications and other infrastructures meeting the demands of the 21st century's urban functions had been constructed along with stores, schools, hospitals, amusement and entertainment facilities.

Several hundred of domestic and foreign finance, commerce and trade, multi-national companies' local headquarters, factor markets and nation-level and district-level product materials gathered at Lujiazui. An internationally-oriented finance and trade zone had taken shape.

To welcome the forum, Shanghai International Conference Center was set up at the west side of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in the Lujiazui Central Financial District. Shanghai International Conference Center covered an area of 32000 square meters including a 16000 square meter main building with a two-story basement and an eleven-story above-ground building.

The rest was green land. The total construction area of the center was 110000 square meters. In the conference center, there were modern meeting rooms, luxurious guest rooms, superior dining rooms and comfortable leisure places.

The meeting rooms were built according to the international standards with various sizes and functions and the new release center was of the highest quality.
