Fight against organ trade must be steeped up

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-05-17 22:01

The authorities should increase efforts to stamp out illegal organ trading while promoting organ donation, says an article in Beijing Youth Daily (excerpts below).

Guangdong has passed sentenced on a case involving kidney trading. The perpetrators have faced justice as Chinese law strictly forbids organ trading.

Hospitals and doctors are an important link in the illegal chain of this trade that is able to continue because of a lack of resources to fight it. This situation must change.

The government must encourage the voluntary donation of organs by educating the public into the benefits and importance to society of a healthy donation system.
