Beijing opens new subway line

Beijing opened on October 7 the first of a series of new train services to meet the needs of the Olympic Games next August. The No. 5 line runs for 27.6 km (16.5 miles) north-south through the heart of the capital with stops at 23 stations. [Xinhua]
