Five academics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering attended an event focusing on practice and exploration in the transformation of the resource-based economy in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, Oct 21.
Themed around opening-up, innovation and intelligent manufacturing, the event included keynote speeches, roundtable discussions, surveys and symposiums with the aim of establishing a communication and cooperation platform among government, academic circles, companies and media to contribute to economic transformation and technological innovation in Shanxi.
The academics shared new achievements in their research fields, discussed intelligent manufacturing in the province and put forward suggestions on transformation and development.
"I recommend that Shanxi follow internationally mature science and technology in key areas such as integrated circuits and artificial intelligence, catch up with international giants and try to lead in these areas," suggested Deng Zhonghan, an academic from the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Liu Ke, an academic from the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering, said that economic transformation is a process and there will be greater and better changes in the next five to 10 years as long as Shanxi continues to put efforts into the process.
Shanxi has been introducing academics, experts and talents to local companies for years by promoting joint research and development, program partnerships and professional training. So far, 91 academic workstations in fields like coal, information technology and environmental protection have been established and are playing vital roles in creating key technologies, training innovation teams, gathering resources and building innovative incubators.
