An intelligent garbage recycling machine through which people can exchange trash for goods has come into service recently in Xiaodian district, Taiyuan.
The garbage recycling machine consists of a vending machine, a control panel and three recycling bins made up of containers for waste metal, plastic and paper. The locals can get their desired goods dependent on points they get after throwing trash into different recycling bins.
It is the first intelligent recycling machine that was put into use by Shanxi Mana Environmental Protection Co. There are four steps for people who want to barter garbage for goods: registering on an app, sorting their garbage into different categories, accumulating points for disposing of the garbage and buying goods with the points, according to Yang Guopeng, the manager of the company.
The staff will weigh the bags of rubbish with different barcodes attached by locals each day and charge points to corresponding residents' registered cards according to the type and quantity of the garbage. Local residents can then choose what they want from the vending machine by paying with points through WeChat, an instant messaging app.
More than 140 locals registered to use the garbage recycling machine on Nov 13.
"We all like the intelligent machine for we can barter garbage for goods. The new invention encourages us to put refuse classification into practice," said Zhang Xinmin, who lives near the recycling station.
The company will provide about 500 cards at the beginning and cooperate with supermarkets to facilitate the exchange of goods.
