A documentary, "Flying over Shanxi", which displays the province's changes and culture, will be completed soon through the use of high-definition, high-altitude aerial photography and more than 10 million yuan ($1.63 million) to provide a cross-section of the area shot by unmanned plane.

The film's three episodes record the topography, culture, history, transformation, and development of Shanxi, with each lasting 25 minutes and, according to Hao Yuanyuan, a film producer at Shanxi broadcasting and TV's documentary center, "The whole project took two and a half years and looked at Shanxi from high up, providing some precious materials."

Shanxi is at the center of Chinese civilization and has a wealth of cultural heritage, with more than 50,000 relics, and 452 sites under State protection, some covered by the documentary.

Yao Lijun, the director, explains, "Take Huayan Temple, for example, the Great Buddha Hall is China's biggest of its kind and is filled with relics. And, we got approval for filming in the hall after a very serious review, which was rare in the history of the Temple."
