Jiading to get a sports-themed park

The residents of Juyuan New Area, Jiading district of Shanghai will soon get a sports-themed park. It will be the first of its kind in the district, local media reported on Feb 18.

The sports park covers a total area of 50,000 square meters and has a combined investment of over 19 million yuan ($2.9 million). The project will be carried out in two stages.

The soon-to-be-opened park is the first stage project, which covers an area of 30,000 square meters. It consists of two basketball courts, two football courts, a gateball court, a 2,000-square-meter area for line dance and a parking lot.

The second stage one will have a tennis court, an entertainment area for kids and an area for exercise facilities, according to local officials.

The park is intended to arouse local residents' interests in sports and is designed to meet the needs of people of all ages. With good greening work, the park will have multiple functions as a "green lung" of the district and as a place for sports and entertainment.

When it is completed, the park is expected to be the first choice of local residents to do exercise, said the officials.
