China's first waste gasification project will launch in Huangdao district, Qingdao, according to Qingdao Financial Daily.

Qingdao Green Invest Co, which successfully generated electricity from biogas in the past, plans to build a waste plant to produce electricity through gasification. Using waste disposal technology from Germany, the facility will gasify 30 percent of solid combustibles and turn them into electricity. It will be able to get rid of dioxins and hydrogen sulfides that come as side products when burning the waste, seeking to prevent secondary pollution and achieve zero emissions.

The company has invested 120 million yuan ($19.6 million) to build the project. It is scheduled to be finished in 18 months. Upon completion, the plant, with an area of 1.3 hectares, can dispose of 64,800 tons of waste and produce up to 65.66 million kWh of electricity each year. The annual revenues from the on-grid energy are estimated to be more than 30 million yuan, with 10 million yuan in profits.
