Plot: Shen Wensu, who passed the imperial examination at the county level, is nearly murdered by a treacherous court official, but is rescued by Liu Jinchan, chief of brigands on Jiufengshan Mountain. After the two get married, Shen discovers that Liu is a brigand, so he escapes in fear of getting into trouble. Shen goes to the capital and passes the exam at the national level. Liu hears the news and goes to find Shen, but Shen refuses to come back. One year later, the State of Liao invades the Song, and Prime Minister Wang recommends Liu as commander in chief. To get revenge on Shen, Liu deliberately dispatches Shen’s army provisions. Shen delays the carriage of army provisions and is punished to be a night watchman. In adversity, Shen regrets his mistakes and the couple finally reunite with the help of Prime Minister Wang.
