Thanks to the warm weather, the icy Yellow River in Inner Mongolia sector has thawed, with water traveling over 412 kilometers since the ice broke up.

Journalists from Xinhua Online used a drone to capture the current state of the ice in the river in Hohhot’s Togtoh county on March 14.

The Yellow River runs over 37 kilometers across Togtoh county from the west, and then turns south toward the Shanxi-Shaanxi Gorge Area.

As the boundary dividing the upper and middle reaches, the county and its surrounding area has taken on a distinct look with ridges, wetlands, streams, and desert.

From mid-February to March this year, the average temperature has been higher than in recent years, according to the local meteorological department, resulting in the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia melting earlier than usual.

During its melting period, the region’s flood control and drought relief department took action to monitor the state of the ice and forecast discharging capacities to reduce the risk of ice jams.
