China's Central Hubei province has enlisted Enshi, an autonomous prefecture of Miao and Tujia minorities, into its government support plan.

Apart from accelerating the economic development there, the government is also trying to better preserve its ethnic minority cultures.

The Hubei provincial government has invested 3-billion yuan and established more than 600 projects to accelerate the development of Enshi prefecture. The provincial education and financial departments have put in 65-million yuan to build an ethnic minority primary school.

By using instruments donated by the government, the school organized an ethnic band, which gives students in the mountain area a chance to play the instruments.

With their teacher's help, students now can use them to perform many ethnic songs.

A teacher said, "This not only helps me to improve myself, but also helps to develop those students in the mountain area in a comprehensive way."

By using this teaching method, the school not only enriches their extracurricular activities, but also helps to develop their sense of responsibility to better preserve the cultures of ethnic minorities.
