Guizhou, the poorest province in China, helped 1.3 million people out of poverty in 2012.

Guizhou received 2.98 billion yuan ($478.7 million) from central finance funds for poverty alleviation in 2012. Its development fund grew by 638 million yuan ($102.5 million) in 2012, a year-on-year increase of 33.8 percent, the most in the country.

Guizhou also received 880 million yuan from the World Bank Loan Project. China Development Bank credited 3.3 billion yuan to 16 counties in Guizhou. Guizhou rural credit cooperatives also provided 50 billion yuan ($8.04 billion) for provincial poverty alleviation.

Based on distinct resources in different poverty-stricken regions, Guizhou created 10 special industries for poverty alleviation in 2012. The industries covered products such as walnuts, traditional Chinese medicine, vegetables and tea.

Guizhou signed the 12th Five-Year Plan Poverty Alleviation Cooperation Framework Agreement with Shenzhen, Dalian, Qingdao and Ningbo. The four cooperation cities have already invested 149 million yuan ($23.9 million) in the Poverty Alleviation Cooperation Fund.
