Seventeen renowned chefs served a feast in the historic area of Sanfang Qixiang in Fuzhou, capital city of Fujian on Jan 30 in celebration of a local culinary regulation to come into effect two days later.

Fujian cuisine, also known as Min cuisine, was very popular in many Southeast Asian countries in the 1980s, especially the famous soup Buddha Jumps over the Wall, or Fo Tiao Qiang in Chinese.

The regulation, which aims at promoting the rejuvenation of Fujian cuisine and better protecting its culinary culture and skills, won wide applause from the local culinary industry upon its release in late 2017.

The feast was dubbed the "Thousand-year Feast" as the combined age of the 17 chefs specializing in Fujian cuisine topped 1,000 years.
