The commerce bureau of Xiamen, Fujian province, the government of Tong'an district, Xiamen, and the e-commerce giant Amazon (China) have signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding (MOU) on May 5 to announce that Amazon is to become one of the first e-commerce companies settling in the Xiamen section of the China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ), the Southeast Express reported.

According to the trilateral MOU, Amazon and the Xiamen government will cooperate on trade to and from Taiwan, bringing more Taiwan goods, particularly food, cosmetic products and consumer electronics to the mainland.

On the same day of signing the MOU, Amazon has also opened an e-shop featuring Taiwan goods only. The e-shop, a joint undertaking by Amazon and the local Xiangyu Group, will contain more than 5,000 kinds of goods from nearly 500 Taiwan brands.

Not only will the e-shop introduce high-quality Taiwan products to the mainland, but it will also serve as a platform for cross-Straits trade, said Niu Yinghua, the vice-president of Amazon China.

She also added that Amazon will take advantages offered by the Xiamen FTZ to open an "online Silk Road" for the Southeast Asian market.
