On September 14th, a male student of Huaqiao University was pronounced dead after getting stuck between the elevator cab and the elevator shaft in a building on its Xiamen campus in Jimei District, reported Southeast Morning News.

The student was found with his body from his chest up trapped by the elevator cab and his legs dangling outside the cab.

The accident happened at around 5:50 pm and was reached by rescuers at around 6pm but already succumbed to his injuries.

According to witnesses, the student was about to take the elevator up to the third floor with his classmate. He unexpectedly fell on the top of the elevator cab when the door opened and the elevator cab was found stuck between the third and fourth floors after the accident.

The student was found with his body from his chest up trapped by the elevator cab and his legs dangling outside the cab.

He likely died from ruptured internal organs, said rescue workers. The cause of the malfunction of the elevator is still ongoing.

People who take the elevator are being cautioned to look carefully before stepping in the elevator cab to avoid a similar situation.
