Britain to teach school kids safe online surfing: PM
2010-Jan-4 09:57:20

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced every school child is to be taught how to surf safely online, according to news reports Wednesday.

Members of the British government are worried about the risks youngsters face logging onto the video websites and social networking websites, such as YouTube, Facebook and MySpace, unsupervised.

Children as young as five years of age will be told to "zip it, block it, flag it" in a new Internet safety campaign to be taught in primary schools. The new strategy will target children directly, rather than their parents.

As an IT era edutainment, "zip it, block it, flag it" is made as a clarion call similar to "bop it, twist it, pull it" in the Bop It traditional audio toy game in Britain.

The message is to tell children to be careful not to reveal private information online, to block suspicious e-mails from stranger or unknown sites and to report any other thing that is considered to be suspicious.
