Toll-free for Tomb Sweeping holiday

Drivers of passenger cars could enjoy a toll-free journey during the coming Tomb Sweeping holiday in April, according to a plan from the transport authority.

Passenger cars with seven or fewer seats and motorcycles will not be charged on toll roads, bridges and tunnels during the Tomb Sweeping holiday from April 4 to 6, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The coming Tomb Sweeping holiday is the second public holiday during which the toll-free policy will be implemented.

During the seven-day Spring Festival holiday this year, highway traffic flows in provinces and autonomous regions, excluding Hainan and Tibet, increased sharply as a result of the no-toll policy.

In early August, the State Council, China’s Cabinet, approved the plan to lift road tolls on highways for passenger cars during major Chinese holidays.

Also from April 4 to 7, Beijing will not launch the license plate number restriction system that limits the use of vehicles, said the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau.

Usually about one fifth of the city’s vehicles are off the road from 7 am to 8 pm every weekday based on the last digit of car number plates to ease traffic congestion in the capital.
