At the turn of the 19-century, a young Chinese girl escapes from a religious sacrifice, and is rescued by an honorable Tibetan herdsman. The two fall in love, but problems arise when she is ignorant of their time-honored traditions and runs into trouble with a glamorous and proud Tibetan princess. Meanwhile, a British expedition is planning to invade the sacred mountain. Facing the country's enemy, the three set aside their disputes and jealousies, and join the militia force to protect their homeland.

Gyangze means " the top of victory fortress." In 1904, England forces invaded Gyangze, and the local people and Tibetan soldiers carried on a heroic resistance, which resulted in the city receiving the name " heroic city." Because of the film, many tourists who arrive make a brief stop to see Zongshan emplacement.

Gyangze has a history of more than 700 years and is one of the nation's famous historic and cultural cities.

It is a perfect example of the city layout of old Tibet, and a stroll through its streets is like going back in time. Gyangze boasts the well-known Baiju Temple and features the best-preserved ancient castle in Tibet.
