Hit the panic button
 世界第二次大戰(zhàn)期間,美國(guó)轟炸機(jī)的駕駛員在飛機(jī)受損的緊急情況時(shí)按動(dòng)緊急按鈕(panic button)通知機(jī)上人員降落。后來口語中有hit(或者push)the panic button表示驚惶失措,說一個(gè)人遇到緊急或者非常情況時(shí)手忙腳亂,不知所措,有如機(jī)師亂按緊急按鈕,生動(dòng)地托出“失酷”(lose one's cool)的動(dòng)作。

口語中叫人不要驚慌有:Don't go hitting the panic button的說法:Don't go hitting the panic button, I'm sure you can solve the problem with a little rational thought。勸朋友遇到什么問題時(shí)不要驚慌,認(rèn)為他略作理智地考慮定能解決問題。Hit (push) the panic button亦作press the panic button,但press似乎沒有hit那么慌張。有時(shí)人們會(huì)開玩笑地把各種各樣的按鈕叫作panic button。此外,如果一個(gè)人頭腦有問題,我們說他:He has a few buttons missing,掉了幾個(gè)“按鈕”,不靈了。
