Red sandalwood has a hard texture with high density. Thus the carving of red sandalwood requires both skillful hands and great patience. An exhibition now in Macao showcases the traditional red sandalwood carving techniques via two miniature sculptures of Beijing's landmarks, The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests at the Temple of Heaven (Qi Nian Dian, Tian Tan) and The Yongding Gate (Yongding Men).
