China has pledged a new batch of aid worth $82 million to help West Africa fight the Ebola outbreak, bringing total Chinese aid to the region to combat the deadly disease to $122 million.

When meeting with his Tanzanian counterpart, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, in Beijing on Friday, President Xi Jinping announced China's decision to support Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea in their fight against Ebola.

Meanwhile, Liu Jieyi, the Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations, told reporters: "China will help improve the countries' capability for epidemic prevention and control and support the UN's role as a leader and coordinator in the fight against the virus."
