Xinhua | Updated: 2016-12-02 10:19

CHANGCHUN - Lyu Xiwen, former deputy Party chief of Beijing, stood trial Thursday for taking bribes.

Lyu was accused of taking advantage of her official positions from 2001 to 2015 to help others obtain government funds and land for construction.

Lyu accepted bribes worth 18.79 million yuan (around $2.73 million dollars) either herself or through her relatives, according the People's Procuratorate of Jilin City in Northeast China's Jilin province.

The procuratorate filed the charges with the Intermediate People's Court of Jilin City.

Lyu pleaded guilty and expressed remorse in the court.

More than 50 people including journalists and members of the public attended Thursday's hearing.

The ruling will be announced at a later date.
