Seven of the infants are boys. They were often purchased in counties in the province and sold to other provinces, according to police.
The multi-provincial child abduction group spent 8,000 yuan (US$1,266) to 10,000 yuan purchasing an infant in rural areas of Yanshan and Guangnan counties in Yunnan province and sold them at 100,000 yuan to 140,000 yuan each in Fujian and Shandong provinces.
In August 2013, a couple was suspected of abducting and selling a girl in Kaiyuan railway section in Yunnan. The police tracked the abduction group from the couple's confession and arrested the head of the group in Yanshan after more than six month's investigation.
The tightly knit group was composed of members of a big family in Yunnan with the head surnamed Gong, a native of Zhaotong county in Yunnan.
