WUHAN - A total of 60,000 people in Central China's Hubei province have been affected by last Saturday's 4.6-magnitude earthquake which hit the border area between Jiangxi and Hubei provinces, according to the provincial civil affairs department.

In Hubei's Yangxin and Huangmei counties, 126 residential houses collapsed, 4,212 houses were damaged, and 5,806 residents were evacuated.

Reconstruction work has begun in the two quake-hit counties to make sure affected residents can move into new houses before winter comes.

Relief materials, including quilts, clothing and an aid fund of 450,000 yuan ($70,427), have been allocated to the quake-hit areas by the local government, said the provincial civil affairs department.

The quake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale jolted the border area between the city of Ruichang in Jiangxi province and Yangxin county in Hubei province at 11:20 pm Beijing Time on Saturday, according to the China Earthquake Network Center. The epicenter had a depth of 17 km.

So far, no casualties have been reported.
