LHASA - A government official from China's Tibet Autonomous Region told Xinhua Tuesday that the video, made public recently by the Dalai Lama's "Tibetan government-in-exile," which showed Chinese policemen "overusing violence", was a lie.

The official said technology experts found that video and audio was edited to piece together different places, times and people.

The video fabricated a lie of how Tendar, one of the rioters who attacked public security offices in Lhasa on March 14 last year, died after being beaten by police, said the official.

"Tendar died from a disease at home awaiting court trial," the official said. He added that Tendar used a knife to slash a civil policeman on duty on the day of the riot, and the policeman, after repeated warnings failed, defeated Tendar in self-defence.

"The image of an injured person in the video is not that of Tendar and the wounds were fake," the official said.

The official pointed out that many images and voices in the video were recorded, edited and pieced together using different equipment.

The official also said that the Dalai Lama group is used to fabricating lies to deceive the international community and the aim of this video is to hide the truth of the March 14th riot.
