BEIJING - The weather will be mainly overcast and appropriate for the Beijing Olympic Games opening ceremony on Aug 8, said Yu Xinwen, China Meteorological Administration (CMA) spokesman, on Wednesday.

"In case there is any rain, the short-term forecast which we have just added to our weather service will alert us. We will let the participants, athletes and spectators know about it," he said at a press conference.

Yu said the weather in Beijing would still have complicated changes in the next few days, so the monitoring and updating of weather forecasts should still be strengthened to guarantee accurate short-term forecasts.

Qiao Lin, National Meteorological Center of CMA chief forecaster, said the capital would not have extreme weather in the next week.

He said it would be cloudy and overcast on August 7, and the flights arriving and departing the Capital Airport would not be affected.
