BEIJING  -- A Taiwanese tourist surnamed Wang fell 50 meters from a cable car during a rescue mission and died after treatment failed on Wednesday, bringing the death toll of Taiwan compatriots to two in the aftermath of Monday's Sichuan quake.

The rest of the tourists on the cable car were rescued, Taiwan's local media said.

A three-year-old Taiwan boy named Zhu Shaowei was reported killed earlier Tuesday, with no further details available so far.

Another four-year-old Taiwan girl named Yu Jiarong was reported to be safe by Taiwan media.

Wang's body will be cremated on Wednesday in Chengdu, provincial capital of Sichuan Province, with the consent of Wang's family who were travelling with him. His family will return to Taiwan on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 1,958 Taiwanese tourists are still awaiting for flights back to Taiwan in Sichuan Province, with 588 stranded in Jiuzhaigou, a tourist attraction in Sichuan.

14 tourists with a Taiwan-based travel agency named "Auspicious Crane" are still out of reach for the time being. Taiwan local media predicted that they were probably trapped on their way from Maoxian county to Wenchuan, epicenter of Monday's major quake.
