Innovation helps cultivate brands By Li Huayu (chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2006-08-22 11:37 Due to continuous efforts in technological
innovation, the city of Tianshui, the second-largest city in Gansu Province and
one of China's old industrial bases, has cultivated some famous brands,
according to statistics from the city government.
Tianshui now has more than 3,200 brands in 400 categories. More than its 200
products have won the honorable titles of national or provincial excellent
products, and over 60 products are exported to over 50 nations and regions.
Up to now, Huatian Microelectronics, Tianshui Great Wall Juice, Hangzhou
Wahaha Group Tianshui branch, and other famous companies have established their
footholds in Tianshui, helping boost local economy.
The city's industrial structure is dominated by processing, accounting for
about 90 percent of the entire industry. The total industrial value and
industrial added value of the city's machinery industry make up 40 percent and
80 percent respectively of Gansu Province's total.
In recent years, the city government has attached much importance to
technological innovation. Currently, 96 percent of ministerial- and
provincial-level enterprises and over 60 percent of city- and county-level
enterprises have established partnership with 44 universities and research
institutes inside and outside Gansu Province. The city has developed and
implemented 50 projects and introduced over 200 national patented and high, new
technologies.
Tianshui has implemented 326 technological innovation projects in recent
years with an investment of 581 million yuan. As many as 19 technological
renovation projects have been listed as the nation's key technological projects,
with an investment of 1.2 billion yuan.
After over 50 years of efforts, some industrial projects in the city have
become known nationwide and even worldwide, such as the "Great Wall" home
appliances, "Shilin" contactors, "Dunhuang" printing ink, and so on.
To cultivate more famous brands, enterprises in Tianshui, with support from
the government, must continue with technological innovation and invest more
efforts in brand building, according to an official with the city
government.
