Rising demand offers export optimism

China's import and export growth is expected to stabilize in the second half of 2013 with the data for August likely to maintain good growth, Shen Danyang, spokesman for Ministry of Commerce said on Friday.

Rising demand from the global market and Chinese government's recent measures to boost foreign trade have produced optimism, according to Shen.

China's exports in July rose 5.1 percent year-on-year after sliding 3.1 percent in June, the General Administration of Customs said. Imports surged 10.9 percent, compared with the 0.7 percent decline in June.

The upsurge in China's July trade data has several reasons, according to Shen. First, Europe and the US is having a steady recovery. Second, the business environment for exporters and importers in July has improved, and value of the yuan has remained stable. Third, statistics for July of last year were relatively low, providing a lower comparison base.
