China's stocks close higher Thursday on resources sector

BEIJING - Chinese shares closed higher Thursday, lifted by the strong performance of the coal companies and oil giants.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed at 2,687.98, up 21.68 points, or 0.81 percent, while the Shenzhen Component Index advanced 38.83 points, or 0.34 percent, to end at 11,321.17.

Combined turnover rose to 251.78 billion yuan ($37.08 billion), up from Wednesday's 244 billion yuan.
