A Yantai-led initiative has brought solar power to households in Grenada. As the first overseas project under the International Zero-Carbon Island Cooperation framework, three solar-storage systems designed by Dongfang Electronics are now operating in St George's, turning sunlight into reliable electricity for local families.
"This is more than just light for a few households — it's hope in tackling our climate crisis," shared a Grenadian government official, reflecting the project's deeper significance.
The systems, tailored to Grenada's tropical climate, can fully cover a household's daily needs. In addition to installing equipment, the project trained residents in operation and maintenance, ensuring long-term sustainability. This practical model demonstrates how targeted green technology can aid island nations facing energy and climate challenges.
"We will continue to help member enterprises leverage their technological strengths to deepen cooperation with small island nations in green energy transition, climate early warning, and zero-carbon agriculture," added a representative from the International Zero-Carbon Island Cooperation Initiative task force.
Building on this success, Yantai is expanding its zero-carbon network, with similar projects currently underway in the Maldives, Fiji, and Micronesia. Through such partnerships, local solutions are becoming a global force for climate resilience and sustainable development.
