China's domestically developed shield machine, the world's largest in diameter for high-speed rail tunnels, has successfully excavated over 10,000 meters beneath the Yangtze River on Dec 16. This marks the first time globally that a 15-meter-class large-diameter shield machine has achieved continuous boring exceeding 10,000 meters in a single drive, according to the project's chief engineer.
