Graduate student Fan Rongfeng from the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences embarked on a challenging mission earlier this year: joining the seventh China-Chile joint Antarctic expedition team. Fan's quest? To shed light on the dramatic effects of global warming on the polar climate.

With a mix of "tension and anticipation," Fan played a crucial role in setting up two of China's indigenously developed autonomous weather stations specifically designed for the extreme low temperatures of the Antarctic Peninsula. This region holds significance as it witnessed the continent's highest recorded temperature of 18.3 degrees Celsius in 2020.
