The Cloud Gate Dance Theater of Taiwan will make its seventh visit to London with internationally renowned choreographer Lin Hwai-min's White from Nov 9-12.
Directed by Lin (who co-founded the dance troupe) and set to music by Japanese composer Atsuhiko Gondai, Bowed Piano Ensemble founder Stephen Scott and percussionist Alex Cline, White plays with audiences' perceptions of light. Light and shadow are used to spectacular effect with over 20 dancers transformed into moving silhouettes.
The London performances are part of a collection of dance works at Sadler Wells' Out of Asia season, which brings together artists from China, Vietnam, Bangladesh and Japan.
The Cloud Gate Dance Theater is known for using ancient aesthetics in original performances that draw on diverse disciplines, from qigong and meditation to ballet and martial arts. On their last visit to Sadler's Wells in 2008, critics declared their work, Moon Water, "hypnotic" (The Guardian) and "a crash course in how to be stunning with the simplest of means" (The Independent).
Date: Nov 9-12
Venue: Sadlers Well's Theater
